McCain Ad Preying Fears of Christian Bogeyman

The recent ad "The One" by the McCain campaign may be about race in a peripheral way, but its main theme is apparently much more subtle and quite a bit more sinister. Thom Hartmann on Air American Radio this morning covered this ad very extensively, and after listening to even a part of it, I am convinced that he is correct.

This is a recurring theme for Republicans, but it seems to pay dividends. The theme is definitely anti-Christian and more precisely anti-decency. Apparently the words, concept and overall outline of the ad was planned long ago, like most of the attack strategy of the McCain smear machine. It almost doesn't matter what positions or words that Barack presents; McCain ads will take the opposite position or point out what this ad does.

I can't recommend listening to the first hour of Mr. Hartmann's program strongly enough http://www.thomhartmann.com/. Besides being absolutely brilliant, Thom has an excellent grasp on this subject (and all others). He points out rather convincingly that the ad depicting Obama as "the one" and culminating with Charlton Heston as Moses parting the Red Sea is reminiscent and using words from the book series "Left Behind," a Christian awareness book which has a character much like the charismatic Barack who is labeled as the anti-Christ.

I don't claim to understand it all, but I wanted to make sure that we are not deluded into thinking that this is just a little standard fear bluster being foisted on the American people. This is out and out hate and the message is Attention all Christians: Be afraid, Be very afraid.

It may not happen right away, given the bias that the mainstream media displays, but I am hopeful that the McCain camp is challenged about the real meaning of this advertisement and ones that are like it with similar mean-spirited attacks. Now that I think of it, I'd love to see McCain challenged about anything!!

Special thank you to my wonderful cousin, David for calling me this morning to tell me what Thom Hartmann was talking about today. David, you are the best!
