Maybe McCain Should Start Worrying About Himself

The key to the next couple of months, in my humble opinion, is how Barack Obama can get his message out to the general public. It seems that John McCain has really staked his entire campaign on daily criticisms and an ongoing tirade against Barack and misrepresenting anything and everything he says. Maybe he should spend a little more time thinking about how he can best represent himself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWX5u69hmzY

The real ironic aspect of the McCain campaign's unfair characterization and constant attacks on the words and actions of Obama is that they eventually end up agreeing with what they initially criticize. There is a long list of examples, but let's just take two. McCain initially went ballistic about Obama's suggestion that it's better to be communicating with our enemies than isolating them, and that if he becomes president, he'd do exactly that. McCain now agrees that having talks with these world leaders would be a viable option.

Additionally, McCain had vehemently belittled Obama for his supposed lack of knowledge and experience when it comes to carrying out the ultimate withdrawal of troops from Iraq. He had said over and over again that he rejects timetables which Obama supports, and when Barack said that the central battleground against terrorists is Afghanistan, McCain said that it was Iraq. Well, guess who now is speaking of timetables and is even entertaining the idea of shifting troops from Iraq to Afghanistan. If you said John McCain, give yourself five points.

I do believe that Obama's strong message of change in domestic and foreign policies is slowly getting out, but the mainstream media and the vast majority of the talking heads would rather focus on the McCain attack machine and whether it has any merit and is how much damage it is doing to Barack Obama. Maybe it's time that they started investigating how much damage it's doing to John McCain. This constant barrage of negativity is taking its toll for sure, but it is now creating much more negative attention on the McCain camp than it is Obama's.

Even though it is very tough at times to sit through the drama that is this presidential campaign and witness the give and take between the two campaigns and how it is either correctly and honestly reported or unfairly spun on various radio and television broadcasts, it remains one of the most engaging and empowering spaces of time in my life. I am still overwhelmingly encouraged by what I see, because above all else, we have one of the best candidates if not the best that we have had in my lifetime, which unfortunately is into its second half century.

Last night my daughter, who technically is my stepdaughter, told us at dinner that she received an anti-Obama hit piece in her email from the man we call Bio, her biological father. It was the typical Obama is a Muslim and we need a Christian crap that we've all seen. Ordinarily, I believe she either wouldn't tell us that she got it (because that would make him look bad) or she'd tell us and just hit the delete button. She instead proudly informed us that she responded by telling him the truth about Barack Obama, and that she doesn't like the fact that he's spreading lies about her candidate.

See? Things are definitely looking up. Let's not be discouraged. We have a lot of work yet to do, but nothing really worthwhile is handed over on a silver platter. This is a win that we will truly savor. Let's go get 'em!
